Crash course

Slip sliding away, into another car's rear end. That is something I thought I wouldn't be doing. My driving has improved a lot (only by my own reckoning) since I resumed regular driving in the second half of 2005. However this afternoon, driving home, my mind drifted. I was driving at the right distance at a reasonable speed, but didn't realise that the flow of traffic slowed. I braked when I realised but slid along into the bumper of the car in front.

Fortunately the gentleman I bumped into was understanding and the insurance issue has nearly been sorted. But I'll be losing a decent chunk of my savings due to only having third party insurance.

It is always a psychological shock to have an accident. I'll have to be very careful in the next few days to get my confidence and make it to the weekend so that arrangements can be made.

The PFPIL (the potential future parent-in-laws), who incidentally are the owners of the car, called tonight and I told them all about the accident. They gave me some important input about what to do with the car.

Am I to read from your comment that there is about to be a change in the nature of your relationship with Xin?

Also, what have you done with the car? :-)

Well, really you can read into things what you will, but in my reading of it (and originally, my writing of it), 'potential' denotes something that is possible but not certain. So, accordingly there is no particular imminent formalised change in the nature of our relation. And if there is, you'll know before it is leaked onto the internet.

That being said Xin, who usually is rather coy about the topic of marriage, was heard to utter a phrase to the effect of '...when we're married...'. But such signs can be deceptive. I'm pretty sure I'll get a bruised arm if I say the 'w' word.

Oh yeah, and we've finally decided what to do with the car. We're getting it fixed at a chinese panelbeater. Generally, I wouldn't have chosen that particular one but its not my car. And it does save a good portion of my money. I just hope it can pass its next warrant...
